Welcome to Haiku Challenge 2012 !

The Haiku Challenge is a Haiku writing challenge that runs from February 1 to February 29 and I am hosting the challenge for the second time successively. After tasting the success of Few Miles Haiku Challenge and The Heights of Haiku Challenge last year, I am hoping to see more and more people participating in this year. Fingers Crossed....

What is a Haiku?

Haiku, is a form of Japanese Poetry, three-lined non-rhyming poem consisting of 17 syllables, in three phrases 5-7-5 syllable respectively.

AskLaska - The Lines I loved the most ~ அஸ்க் லஸ்காவில் நான் ரசித்த மிக அழகான வரிகள் !

After a long time I am writing a post worded in Tamil, definitely not a poem from my pen but a song written by the lyricist Madhan Karky. He is a software engineer, research associate, assistant professor of computer science at the College of Engineering (Guindy), lyricist, and film dialogue writer. He is always known for his lyrics because he researches for beautiful and different words before writing a lyric for any songs; such is the specialty of the writer. Do stop by his blog or follow him on Twitter.

Here I wish to quote the beautiful lines (to me) written in the song, ‘AskLaska’ for the movie ‘Nanban’. The beauty of a lyric is to rhyme without any actually rhyme, which is difficult to achieve but he has achieved with ease, even though he picked the words from 16 different languages that conveys the meaning ‘LOVE’.

The first line swept my heart with such beautiful worded rhyme so I started to hear the song as many times I can hear in a day.

“அத்தனை மொழியிலும் வார்த்தை ஒவ்வொன்று கொய்தேன் மொத்தமாய் கோர்த்துதான் காதல் செண்டொன்று செய்தேன்” ~ It’s absolutely true that he has taken beautiful words from different languages to create a beautiful bouquet of words.


“புளூட்டோவில் உனை நான் கூடேற்றுவேன், விண்மீன்கள் பொறுக்கி சூடேற்றுவேன்.” ~ Oh my God, he wants to take the girl to Pluto and if she feels cold, he will use stars to create a warm environment.


“முக்கோணங்கள் படிப்பேன் முன் மூக்கின் மேலே விட்டம் மட்டம் படிப்பேன் உன் நெஞ்சின் மேலே மெல்லிடையோடு வளைகோடு நான் ஆய்கிறேன்” ~ He can learn about triangles from her nose, ‘Diameter Level’ from her heart and ‘Curves’ from her hips. What a romantic line…


“உன் நெஞ்சில் நாடிமானி வைக்க காதல் காதல் என்றே கேட்க” ~ Using stethoscope she can hear love love from his heart (PS: The heroine is a doctor in the movie).


“தேஜாவு கனவில் தீ மூட்டினாய் ராஜா என் மனதை ஏன் வாடினாய், கப்பம் கேட்டு மிரட்டி நீ வெப்பம் கொண்டாய் ரத்தம் மொத்தம் கொதிக்க என் பக்கம் வந்தாய் வெண்ணிலவாக இதமாக குளிரூட்டவா” ~ I don’t wanna spoil the beauty of this line by translating it in my words.


“நீ கொல்லை மல்லி முல்லை போல பிள்ளை மெல்லும் சொல்லை போலே” ~ And yeah this is the best rhyme one could write..


ஆஹா என்ன அழகு ! What a beautiful way to pen down a song! So here, I present the song in Tamil.

அஸ்க் லஸ்கா எமோ எமோ – ஐ அஸ்த் அஸ்த் லைபே – அஹாவா போலிங்கோ சிந்தா சிந்தா – இஷ்க் இஷ்க் மைலே – லவ் இஷ்ட பிரேம பியாரோ பியாரோ – ஒரு காதல் உந்தன் மேலே

ஆஹா என்ன அழகு ! ~ The last line is the most beautiful line of the song and I am sure it’s in his genes because he is the son of Vairamuthi Sir, my all time favorite lyricist. I would love to share two beautiful lyrics written by Vairamuthu Sir which is close to my heart.

“வானம் எங்கும் உன் பிம்பம் ஆனால் கையில் சேரவில்லை
காற்றில் எங்கும் உன் வாசம் வெறும் வாசம் வாழ்க்கையில்லை”

I can see your image in the sky but I never touched it!
I can just smell your fragrance in the air, but it is not my life!

And

"வலிமிகும் இடங்கள் வலிமிகா இடங்கள் தமிழுக்குத் தெரிகின்றதே
வலிமிகும் இடங்கள் வலிமிகா இடங்கள் தங்களுக்கு தெரிகின்றதா"
