It’s been more than a month since I posted on my blog. I wanted to write something badly and that’s when my wife suggested me to share our experience of online shopping through Cashkaro.com. The result is what you read now.

Struggle of a 30-year-old bachelor

And before I knew it, I had hit ‘Send’. Was I frustrated too much or lost my patience that day? I really can’t answer.

I phoned my girlfriend on her mobile and informed her about my resignation; she got angry and ended my call without speaking any word. Even my friends were angry as well. My supervisor called me on my phone enquiring the reason, but when I said the reason, he called me an idiot and scolded me badly. Everybody had a reason to blame me, but no one was ready to think from my position. I did not resign because they paid peanuts or because they failed to recognize my talent, but for the sake of my small skinny stomach: food.

How could someone resign a good job for the sake of food? Was that the question in your mind, come and stay with me, you would understand why.

That night I could not sleep at all, I was in tears, as she too did not understand me instead of thinking of ways to stay in touch with me, she texted Let’s breakup. Long distance relationships will not work for me.

Hell it was. Next 30 days were the worst days of my life. I left the city without any regrets, as I learnt the difference between love and time pass; real friends and fake friends; everything I learnt in those days made me a self-made man.

Five years have gone now. I have come back to the same place. Memories evoking again like a silhouette of me. I believe that there should not be any problem now. I know cooking a bit. Also, technology has improved. Options have increased. Jacob Hills ~ Ismita Tandon Dhankher ~ Book Review

Jacob Hills is yet another fantastic book from Ismita’s pen; having read her first book, ‘Love on the Rocks’, I had a lot of expectation on this and she in fact wrote a wonderful book, which dealt with grave social issues and murder mystery. A fresh read this is!

I have a habit of observing the cover of any book that I read and this one has a lot to offer, bright sunset, a lonely road and a hill to paint a murder mystery in mind and I am sure that one cannot put down the book after reading the blurb of the story.

The blurb:
It’s just another evening at the Tiller’s Club.

Capt. Rana, a Young Officer training at the War College, stands at the bar, deliberately is avoiding his pregnant wife, Heena. Saryu, village belle-turned-modern babe, drink in hand, chats up another YO. Her husband, Maj. Vikram Singh, shoots angry glances at her. The flamboyant Lt. Col. Gary Randhawa and his wife Pam chat merrily with the senior officers – who’d guess that they lead an underground swinger couples’ club?

In a corner stands Eva, the beautiful Anglo-Indian wife of Maj. George Chandy, who finds herself at the heart of a murder mystery. The murdered woman’s body is covered with cigarette burns. A six-year-old girl’s wrist is similarly marked. Another little girl shows signs of severe abuse.

This is Jacob Hills: an army station that houses the War College. A world of genteel conversation, smart men and graceful women. Set in the 1980s – in a country on the cusp of tradition and Westernized modernity – Jacob Hills is the story of what lies beneath the smooth veneer. It’s a noxiousness the Chandys must confront if their love is to survive Jacob Hills.

Now you would agree that it is a good snapshot of what to expect and supports the title with a clear pointer to the army station at Jacob Hills. Being a lover of fragrances and smells (as said in post no. 400), this one was smell worthy!

If you expect me to write about the author, I would first say she is first a fantastic poet, though she tags herself as A Lesser Known Poet and blogging at www.lesserknownpoet.com. A good friend and a kind-hearted person who wants me to get published and I hope I would get published someday soon. Her poem, ‘I Am Beautiful’, won a prize in the Yahoo-Dove IndiBlogger contest and, several other poems have won hearts for her. She’s also the author of the romantic thriller Love on the Rocks, released in 2011. And she is currently working on The Song of the Sufi Masroof, a book of photographs and poems.

After the brief note and before the heart-wrenching prologue, a meaningful poem:

A life without love
Is like a park without children,
Bereft of laughter, of innocence...
Like a temple without God,
A book without a reader,
A man without a woman,
Yet, many a senseless life is spent,
Craving the pleasures of the flesh...

The story:
Like the dogs Bozo and Bullet, she and he and his favourite game, to kiss and burn. He’s a coward and a cowards always stabs in the back. She is found dead with cigarette burns on her body in an old abandoned church in Jacob Hills. Eva, who has moved recently to Jacob Hills with her husband Maj. George Chandy, finds her bleeding badly, admits her in the hospital with the help of Maj. Alex, where she breathes the last. No one is able to identify who the woman is and so she is cremated at government expense. A six-year-old girl’s wrist is similarly marked. Another little girl shows signs of severe abuse. Col. Sampat along with Eva and George resolves the mystery behind the murder and discovers some dark secrets of the residents of Jacob Hills.

This story offers you a lot of things – a newly married couple, child sexual abuse, an ill-mental man, sexual flavours, wife swapping, parties, drinks and get together. In total, Ismita has woven a good decent that keeps you glued till the very end.

Like in her first book, Ismita has many POV’s narrating the story, which I liked a lot as I could see the story through the characters eyes :)

Overall, the story is interesting and well written and talks about the grave social issues; it is a book worth reading, so do check it out.

Moment of the Millennium: A Lip Lock

“It’s party time!” said Navya in her sweet voice, for which the team jumped in happiness. For an IT Professional like us, every day is a challenge, every hour is money, and each second is a ‘do or die’ struggle, still whenever we get a reason to celebrate, we do smile and celebrate!

It was Navya’s Birthday. She is a heart stealing beauty with her big moist eyes and a perfectly drafted nose adds beauty to her face. Her white complexion is hard to describe. Totally, she is an angel who turned 22 on 12 December 2012. As it was day of the millennium, we thought of celebrating her birthday in a special way and at sharp 12:12:12 – the moment of the millennium, we made the cutie to cut the cake and in less than a minute, the whole cake was on her face. It was indeed a big surprise for her, for which she could not stop smiling.

It was that golden moment, when Karthik – a well-built short hair guy went on his one knee with a diamond ring to propose his love to the birthday angel. She could not stop blushing; in fact, no girl can. When everyone was wondering what’s going to happen next, she accepted his proposal, and he put the ring on making the moment more beautiful. That’s when she called a party, a pizza party - A pizza party for 50 people!

We had two options; one – Dominos and the other was PHD. And on popular demand, we opted for Dominos. We enquired about the price for a bulk order, for which they agreed to give a decent discount, and when we were about to finalize the deal, Raghav shouted in his grave voice.

“Sir, we would get a better offer if we book online. Moreover, I know a site where we can get coupons for a good deal. The site name is CupoNation - http://www.cuponation.in/”

“CupoNation?” He showed us the site. It looked fantastic right from the logo to the wide variety of offers they give on various stores. I was impressed!

Not Totally Unbelievable ~ Vibhuti ~ Book Review ~ Someone is Special

“Seeing is Believing” - Can we believe whatever we see? Sometimes we have too, that’s why life is Not Totally Unbelievable. Vibhuti Bhandarkar (Vibz), my bloggerdost, and my first critique, is a graphic designer by profession and blogger by passion. She is a prolific writer and avid reader. And she published her first book titled “Not Totally Unbelievable” – a collection of short stories. (PS: Vibz, I expected a short story of type Maiden Over)

About her - in her words:
“I'm an artist but writing is my passion, hence I blog! I'm humble, little ME, revelling in my own sweet world! There are many a dreams to realize and many beautiful things to do... There's one life to live and that's exactly WHAT I DO! :D”

Having read her blog for more than two years, I find the book very interesting. The cover of the book is refreshing for the readers and invites to read it at a go, probably when you sip a cup of coffee. The title of the stories says it all and the stories have all the elements of life. The highlights are the character sketches, the details that make the stories alive and the plot. The stories have a positive vibe to inspire the readers and every story is unique in its own say. I will pick, “At the Lingnan Tea House”, “Trekking through time”, “Unheard” and “A little thing called love” as my personal favourite. The author’s effort to make the book simple and thoughtful is commendable. Totally, this book is a perfect read.

I really do not have any complaints against this book other than the cost of the book because it is a bit small compared to some of the other books available in the market at the same price (Rs 95). But that’s ok because one can afford a little more for a perfect read. Usually, I rate the books I read, but it is impossible to rate your bloggerdost book.

And, “Congratulations to you on your first attempt as a budding writer. I look forward to read your novel soon Vibz.”

AskLaska - The Lines I loved the most ~ அஸ்க் லஸ்காவில் நான் ரசித்த மிக அழகான வரிகள் !

After a long time I am writing a post worded in Tamil, definitely not a poem from my pen but a song written by the lyricist Madhan Karky. He is a software engineer, research associate, assistant professor of computer science at the College of Engineering (Guindy), lyricist, and film dialogue writer. He is always known for his lyrics because he researches for beautiful and different words before writing a lyric for any songs; such is the specialty of the writer. Here I wish to quote the beautiful lines (to me) written in the song, ‘AskLaska’ for the movie ‘Nanban’. The beauty of a lyric is to rhyme without any actually rhyme, which is difficult to achieve but he has achieved with ease, even though he picked the words from 16 different languages that conveys the meaning ‘LOVE’.

The first line swept my heart with such beautiful worded rhyme so I started to hear the song as many times I can hear in a day.

“அத்தனை மொழியிலும் வார்த்தை ஒவ்வொன்று கொய்தேன் மொத்தமாய் கோர்த்துதான் காதல் செண்டொன்று செய்தேன்” ~ It’s absolutely true that he has taken beautiful words from different languages to create a beautiful bouquet of words.


“புளூட்டோவில் உனை நான் கூடேற்றுவேன், விண்மீன்கள் பொறுக்கி சூடேற்றுவேன்.” ~ Oh my God, he wants to take the girl to Pluto and if she feels cold, he will use stars to create a warm environment.


“முக்கோணங்கள் படிப்பேன் முன் மூக்கின் மேலே விட்டம் மட்டம் படிப்பேன் உன் நெஞ்சின் மேலே மெல்லிடையோடு வளைகோடு நான் ஆய்கிறேன்” ~ He can learn about triangles from her nose, ‘Diameter Level’ from her heart and ‘Curves’ from her hips. What a romantic line…


“உன் நெஞ்சில் நாடிமானி வைக்க காதல் காதல் என்றே கேட்க” ~ Using stethoscope she can hear love love from his heart (PS: The heroine is a doctor in the movie).


“தேஜாவு கனவில் தீ மூட்டினாய் ராஜா என் மனதை ஏன் வாடினாய், கப்பம் கேட்டு மிரட்டி நீ வெப்பம் கொண்டாய் ரத்தம் மொத்தம் கொதிக்க என் பக்கம் வந்தாய் வெண்ணிலவாக இதமாக குளிரூட்டவா” ~ I don’t wanna spoil the beauty of this line by translating it in my words.


“நீ கொல்லை மல்லி முல்லை போல பிள்ளை மெல்லும் சொல்லை போலே” ~ And yeah this is the best rhyme one could write..


ஆஹா என்ன அழகு ! What a beautiful way to pen down a song! So here, I present the song in Tamil.

A boy sees a beautiful girl, falls in love with her blindly, and proposes her immediately. She will say, ‘No’ at first, then she may accept him later or else she may reject. In that case the boy starts growing beard, drink beer, smoke or if he is intelligent, he may consider her as his inspiration for his life. In some cases, he may sing his anguish. Here is a song which can be singed in such situations, ‘Why this Kolaveri di?’, is a highly popular song and it is a rage among millions of students and youngsters, especially in blogs, social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter and video sharing site like You Tube. It is from the movie ‘3’, starring Dhanush and Shruthi Hassan, directed by Aishwarya Dhanush is yet to be released. I loved the song so so much and that’s the reason I am sharing the same here... 'I have a Dream' ~ Rashmi Bansal~ Book Review ~ Someone is Special

The most beautiful feeling in this world is to dream about your life. I am no exception to deny it as I too had a lot and one of them is receiving a priceless book delivered in perfect condition at my doorsteps. When it is author signed book, ‘What can I say?’, as usual, I was flying to the roof after receiving the book, ‘I have a Dream ~ Rashmi Bansal’ from BlogAdda. I owe and thank BlogAdda for this sweet surprise.

Can someone say ‘I never dream?’ I hope no one will say that because day to-day software life the only sweet thing that could happen is a dream.

The title ‘I have a Dream’ invited me more to read the book at a stretch from dusk until dawn. I have to say it is an awe-inspiring read for any entrepreneur. The cover of the book with cloud pattern makes it so close to dreams.


“"I have a dream... That one day all of God's children will be able to join hands and sing... Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!" The author has started the book with such inspiring words from Martin Luther King Jr speech on 28th August 1963.

““A tree is known by its fruit” and so the author’s note as it defines the book, best as “These are people like you and me, not Mother Teresa. They are using the principles of business, to create a better world” A world where profit does not equal greed where people come together for a greater common cause. The author’s effort to make the book simple, thoughtful and innovative is commendable. With inspiring examples of brilliant writing, this book is a perfect read for any youth entrepreneur. I am sure the book fulfils the aim of aspiring entrepreneurs.

~ 249 ~ Love on the Rocks ~ Ismita Tandon Dhankher ~ Book Review ~ Someone is Special

Can someone say ‘I hate romantic thriller’? May be you can but I can’t and the words, ‘romance’ and ‘thriller’ invited me to read this book. What is so special about this book? When most of the new age writers stick to love, kiss, sex, break-up and other sorts, ‘Love on the Rocks’ by Ismita Tandon Dhanker is a fresh breezy read.

“The cover of the book itself is so refreshing for the readers and it says...

‘What happened to Gary?’
‘He was lying on the floor, dead.’
‘Congratulations, Raghav. Your investigation has reached the next level, from theft to probable homicide!’

Wow, What a poem Ismita and what an Ode…

The book is about the time spent by Newly Wed Sancha with her hubby, Aaron Angelo Victor Andrews, Chief Officer of Sea Hyena. She boards a ship, along with Aaron and twenty-four crewmembers of Sea Hyena. Sancha accidently meets charming First Officer Harsh Castillo, who is also Aaron’s best friend and fell for his looks, not actually but just in thoughts. She also meets the Captain (Popeye), Baldy and rest of the crewmembers. She learns about the recent death of chief cook (Gary), who was found dead in the meat locker. Followed by it was Kurian’s run-in by dead Gary, his hands was covered with blood of dead Gary. Although the death of Gary was termed as an accident by the Crew Members but when there’s a theft from the captain’s safe on the DJ night, green dollars roughly worth 20,000$, things begin to puzzle her. She takes it on her to investigate the mysteries and all the men come under her doubtful eyes including her husband Aaron.

With investigating officer Raghav’s arrival, her investigation under her doubtful eyes was so deep. She finds the thief to be the person whom she can’t even imagine in that position and learnt about her hubby’s past love Rose. She could not digest her love being cheated and with no option left she finds herself at the cross roads of love, honesty and integrity.

Totally, an interesting plot, the flow of the story is just so awesome and the way the mystery is unraveled is unbelievable. The best point about the book is the story is told from viewpoints of different people, which as a writer I love it so much and it makes the story very interesting for the readers as well. The character sketch of Sancha and Aaron was amazing and the author did full justice to the mystery and thriller sketches that is to be the heart of the novel. I expected many romantic encounters but was disappointed on that note.

And in acknowledgements I read, ‘Torturous manuscript’ ~ this is one of the best scripts I have read so far. ‘Love on the Rocks’, is a romantic thriller that tests the bonds of love and marriage against a backdrop of suspense, murder, so-called suicide and many psychological undercurrents. And when you reach the last page, you will feel worth spending the time reading the book for hours.

A Journey In Words - Review by Leo

A journey in words can go a long way. Engrossed in words, the journey may go for eons, yet we may feel like it has only been a few minutes. It may be a marathon, a hurdle race of millions of meters, yet at the end, if we ever reach it, it may feel like we’ve been traveling only a few miles. Today, I review the blog of a friend, my co-host here at Review Tuesdays, Someone is Special aka SiS. He’s called his blog Few Miles, and we’ll travel some few miles with him here today.

Saravana Kumar, writing under the pen name of SiS began his writing journey with a poem titled “Sorry” but he’s continued to pen down poems and stories which need no apologies. He’s woken up angels in his dreams, and the blog’s poems, he says, are inspired by the dream girl. Given his pen name by his sweet friend, he continues to use the name and with the words he pens, he tries to cross the many hurdles and critics to remain focused as a writer with myriad thoughts in his mind.

The blog Few Miles’ template has been edited by him, a simple look with a mix of orange, blue and the main background of white. The blog header has a logo “FM” that is also the Faison of the blog. The blog has a single sidebar to the right, and the sidebar houses a large assortment of widgets; from twitter contact buttons, to the award badges he’s won on various platforms, from archives and favorite posts, to the recent comments list and category cloud. The blog has, so far, got visits from more than a hundred different countries since beginning in October 2009, and has 242 posts to-date.

SiS is not a “particular” writer; in the sense, he doesn’t prefer a particular form, or genre for that matter. He writes what comes to his mind at that time, or depending on if a meme inspires him. If he feels unable to write, he’s willing to take breaks to refresh his muse. SiS likes to write for contests, be it poetry or prose and experiments with the same. His themes vary from causes to nature, but most of his readers would recognize that the theme that dominates the others is romance. He is a self confessed “romancer” and his stories have that emotional pull to it. Quite a few of his posts also revolve around cricket so I think he is a great follower of the sport as well. SiS writes regularly for memes, and is also the host of a meme called Room for Romance, a monthly meme with themes based on his favorite emotion.

Being a regular writer, his frequency of posting is high, and though is he is talented to hold the quality, depending on the frame of mind he is in; his posts do have a tendency to waver on that front. A positive point about SiS is that he takes critique well and works on his posts to get better as he writes. I’ve been reading him for a while now, and I’d say I have a lot of favorites from his posts to list out here. If any of you are very much addicted to romance in reading, I’d say his blog would be a drug to you. On a personal note, I’d very much say him to work on his determination, as I’ve known him to think of quitting when results are not going his way.

As a reader, I think the first thing I’d look at in a blog is the post. As a writer, I feel that I would also want my reader to read the post. In your blog, I find the sidebar assortment of widgets to be overwhelming. When the badges of winning entries you have had in competitions is present directly, the reader would be distracted to reading that instead (though it being there as a celebration of your success is quite understandable). If possible, try to declutch it somehow. Explore more themes other than romance in your long stories. Look to better yourself each time. I think you are good already, but still aim for the perfection that is elusive. A writer’s journey is always toward perfection, hence the reason for it being an endless one. Other than that, I’m quite happy as a reader to visit the blog. Keep going!
